There is something to be said for the overwrought, imposing architectural style of many bodegas found in Mendoza. The structures on the site of the Altos de Altamira winery in Vista Flores offer a different and more subtle expression. Here the bodega is housed in a more or less utilitarian warehouse. Adjacent is an historic Spanish Hacienda style farmhouse used by family, friends and sometimes hosting visitors. I was one such visitor, along with my wife, Wendy for the first time, back in 2006. First of many, now, but I did not know at that time how significant our friendship with the family that chose this special place would become. Having worked in and around viticulture for many years, including an internship in California, Anna and Roberto made their dreams of becoming vintners a reality.
